Our pledge to the environment
Firstly, we would like to thank you for looking at our park. We invite you to consider Watergate Bay which boasts two and a half miles of glorious white sand, fantastic waves, an abundance of local wildlife, and fabulous local produce and resources. By choosing to spend your quality time with us, you will opt to become part of a very privileged community. We have watched our village develop in many ways over the past 30 years. We invite you to take this opportunity to help us make a positive difference in our impact on both our local and wider environment.
“A sustainable community lives in harmony with its local environment and does not cause damage to distant environments or other communities, now or in the future.”
Sustainability Indicators Research Project (1994).
By sourcing as many supplies of food, drink, building materials, cleaning and office resources locally as possible, we can provide a sustainable economy for our local suppliers. We use water reducing systems in our toilet blocks, reusing systems in our swimming pools, and are looking forward to wind turbines to develop our own power system.
We invite you to join us in our education programmes so that we can share with you the extent of our own ecosystem, here on the park. We have nature trails, wild meadows and wildlife photographic competitions for all ages to enjoy and participate in. Specifically for the little ones, we provide a Little Smugglers Club which includes wildlife hours as well as sports clubs, face painting and parties. Our Footprint area is a fantastic knowledge spa of local information to guide you through our nature and nurture scheme, local produce retailers and businesses.
By using the 3 R’s, together we can reduce our environmental impact whilst you are with us.
Reduce – Please try to minimise the amount of water and electricity you use whilst on site. We have already implemented percussion and low flow taps in the showers and wash areas and hippo reduction systems in the toilets.
Recycle - We provide recycle points through out the site for all your bottles, plastic, paper, cardboard, cans and food waste. Please use these to their full capacity. Our paper, glass and plastic products are all recycled.
Reuse – Our scrap paper is all reused and our maintenance system depends on a regenerate, not replace system. Don’t throw anything away which can be reused by someone else. Ask around or in reception. Someone may be able to give it a new lease of life!
Our environment is special to all of us - not only to benefit you, our guests, in the enjoyment of your relaxation and rejuvenation during your stay with us, but also the local community, families and future visitors.
A final thought…………………..
“You have to put it back. It’s like anything – if you just keep taking, then eventually there will be nothing left.”
Gary Greenland.
